Winner of the most useful app at Culture Hack Scotland 2011

Who made it?

James Newbery

What is it?

James focussed on the Edinburgh International Book Festival. He wanted to produce a resource for people like himself who enjoy books, but would not describe themselves as ‘literary’. James says: “I read plenty, but I don’t take a huge interest in the authors themselves. When attending a book event, the author becomes the centre of focus, and so I wanted to produce a tool that would help attendees discover more about the creators of the books that they have been enjoying.” BookFest began life as a mobile app for discovering more about authors, but the prototype caught the eye of the EIBF was officially commissioned by the Book Festival. It launched in August 2012.
