Culture Hack Scotland 2011

What was it?

This 36-hour event took place in Edinburgh on the 6th and 7th of May 2011. Organised in collaboration with Ambition Scotland and Festival Labs, the event opened up a number of new datasets for participants. The most popular ones used at the weekend were the Edinburgh Year-Round footfall data (from Edinburgh City Council) and the Fringe venue dataset.

Proceedings

30 projects were created from 20 datasets in 24 hours. The day began with an informal networking and beer session, followed by introductions from the organisers and supporters of the project, then there was a dinner for developers, and a lot of food, caffeine and good hacking.

Attendees

100 designers and developers.

Data

Scotland’s leading cultural institutions contributed data, including the Edinburgh Festivals, National Museums of Scotland, Scottish Poetry Library and Film4.
